19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player won his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging year, winning just one match at the big events and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in specific - caused him falling of the top ten and finally splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.

Now working with his coach and his other coach, he has gradually improved in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden title following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from spring of 2023.

The win also means he has secured 21 championships at 21 various competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my both daughters at once, so to win a championship is really nice," said ranked player the champion.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

His retrieving approach and frequent reactions on court had prompted observers to question if his skill to compete at the elite level was over.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, backed up by an better serve.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the final five games to go ahead.

Both players traded break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden tour victory, took control to force a final set.

He defended four initial chances in a tight final set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, he secured victory with a point at the net area, with Moutet incapable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
